Army Chief Thapa returns home after week-long US visit



KATHMANDU: Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Purna Chandra Thapa on Tuesday returned home after completing his week-long visit to the United States.

According to a press statement issued by the Nepal Army Headquarters, CoAS Thapa met with Vice Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Paul J. Selva and other officials of the US Department of Defense who look after South Asian affairs during his week-long visit to the United States.

Likewise, CoAS Thapa also held meetings with United Nations senior officials, including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations Department of Field Support Atul Khare.

According to the statement, Thapa also took part in the British Armed Forces Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) CHODS Network Meeting at the UN headquarters in New York held on July 10 and the Chiefs of Defense Conference organized by UN Secretariat on July 11.

Thapa’s visit is believed to strengthen NA’s relations with the United States and the United Nations, the statement added.
