KATHMANDU: Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest cricketer to reach 11,000 runs in one-day internationals. India captain Kohli broke a world record in the ICC World Cup 2019 match against Pakistan at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday. Kohli became the fastest to reach 11000 ODI runs. Kohli got to the mark with a boundary off Hassan Ali’s ball in the 45th over. Kohli achieved the milestone in just 222 innings.
Sachin Tendulkar had reached the 11,000-run mark in ODIs against England on January 28, 2002 in Kanpur. He had taken 276 innings and 284 ODIs to get there while Virat Kohli brought up his 11,000th ODI run in only his 222nd innings and 230th ODI. While Tendulkar reached the milestone 12 years and 41 days after his debut in 1989, Kohli needed a little less than 11 years.
Virat Kohli is also closing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most hundreds in ODIs. Tendulkar retired with 49 hundreds, Virat Kohli has 41 hundreds already.
