US president Trump declares national emergency over IT threats

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Thursday declared a national emergency to protect US computer networks from what has been said as ‘foreign adversaries’, media reports have said.

Trump signed an executive order that bars US companies from using foreign telecoms, which are believed to pose national security risks.

Even though the order has not named any company, it is said to have been targeted Huawei, a Chinese tech giant.

Huawei, however, had earlier said barring its business in the US would only upset the American consumers and the companies there. (Agencies)
