Collection of state revenue in Karnali ‘low’

KARNALI: Karnali state has failed to achieve its target of revenue collection due to the decrease in the source of internal income.

Meanwhile, even the local levels do not pay revenue to the state. The state has collected revenue of only Rs 130 million in the 10 months of the current fiscal year despite its target of collecting revenue of Rs 500 million in the fiscal year 2075/76.

Karnali State had identified transport, registration of land and houses, advertisement and river based construction materials as the sources of revenue collection. However, the local levels have not paid 40 percent of the revenue they were obliged to pay to the state government.

According to Santa Bahadur Sunar, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Karnali state has been the weakest of all states in terms of revenue collection.

The Ministry said that the state government collected revenue a total of Rs 133.2 million, which included Rs 77.838 million from land revenue and Rs 55.363 million from transportation.
