Writ filed at SC against PUBG ban

KATHMANDU: A writ has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday against the government’s decision to ban popular online multiplayer game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).

Advocates Pravin Subedi, Bikash Thapa, Anurag Subedi, Subash Pathak and Ritesh Poudel moved the apex court arguing that the ban has curtailed freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by the constitution.

The Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affair, Ministry of Communications and Science and Technology among others have been named defendants in the writ.

On Thursday, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) had directed all the internet service providers to ban the addictive game.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had received various complaints calling for a ban on the game, and the ban was put into effect following permission for the same from Kathmandu District Court.
