Four held for defrauding people of Rs 1.9 mln by selling fake gold

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four people on the charge of cheating people of Rs 1.9 million by selling them fake gold.

The arrested are Purna Bahadur Tamang, 33, of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-6, Nuwakot, Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, Prabin Shrestha and Subas Shrestha of Chauri Deurali Rural Municipality, Kavre, said police.

On December 24 last year, they had sold Rajesh BK of Samakhusi, Kathmandu four pieces of fake gold. The said gold was wrapped in a piece of yellow cloth.

BK had informed the police after the precious metal turned out to be iron when tested.

Acting upon the complainant, a squad of Metropolitan Police Range Office launched investigation and eventually arrested them from Sundhara on Monday .

Police investigation shows that they had sold such fake gold to many others and swindled them of Rs 1.9 million.
