KATHMANDU: It sounds peculiar to hear that an undeveloped country like Nepal exports contact lens to many countries. But it is true. Many a people in the world have got their eye-sight through the lens imported from Nepal.

An eye is a sensitive part of our body. It is beyond imagination, how painful it would be for those people who lose their eye-sight.

Tilganga Eye Hospital has been manufacturing contact lens for the last 25 years. Tilganga  is the first hospital to manufacture eye contact lens in the South Asia. It imports raw materials from American and Britain.

It had started manufacturing contact lens with the technical assistance of Federal Foundation of Australia.

A laboratory had been established in 2049 BS and began selling contact lens from 2053 BS. The cost of a contact lens is US$ 3 and sells for US$ 15-20 in the international market, said the hospital
