KATHMANDU: The first Electric Car Racing is set to be held in Jomsom of Mustang district in 2021.
The event will be organized in coordination with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). Nepal’s mountainous area was chosen as one among the five places where the similar event will be held, the organizer Extreme E said in a press meet held recently.
Electric-car racing is going to be organized with the aim of minimizing the carbon emission produced by fossil fuel-powered cars, according to the organizers.
Believed to support in promotion of various tourist destinations in Nepal, the announcement of the event was made by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai and Formula E-Championship’s President Alejandro Agag and the team two days ago.
E-car racing was first announced in 2011 and was last held in Beijing, China in 2014. The electric vehicle used in this race are one-seater. However, in Nepal, electronic SUVs could be used during the race. Altogether 12 teams from various countries will participate in the race.
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi believed that the event would help raise awareness about the environment in the context of growing risk of global warming. President Alejandro was of the confidence that this event will promote adventurous sports in Nepal.
