Afghan airstrikes kill 10 militants in northern province



KABUL: A total of 10 militants were confirmed dead as fighting planes struck a Taliban gathering in Khawja Bahaudin district of the northern Takhar province on Monday, said an army statement released here Tuesday.

Acting upon intelligence report, the fighting planes targeted a Taliban gathering in Kohna Shakh village of the restive district at 10:00 p.m. local time on Monday, killing 10 armed insurgents on the spot and wounding two others.

A Taliban local commander Abdul Ali Farooqi was also among those killed in the sorties, the statement added.

Taliban militants, who are active in parts of the relatively troubled Takhar province with Taluqan as its capital 245 km north of Kabul, have yet to make comments on the report.
