Rape-accused Mahara being produced at court today

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who has been facing charges over sexual misconduct, is being produced at the court on Tuesday.

On October 6, Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.

Roshani Shahi, a victim, lodged a complaint with the police against Mahara for attempting to rape her.

Mahara had resigned from the post following the accusation on moral ground.

Mahara has already spent nine days in police custody.

Police will be seeking an extension of the custody as they are yet to conclude the investigation. A case will be filed only after the conclusion of the investigation process.
