7 die as tourist boat capsizes in Godavari river in India



NEW DELHI: At least seven people have died when a tourist boat carrying around 61 passengers capsized in the Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh this afternoon, Indian media reports have said.

The incident occurred near Kacchuluru village in Devipatnam Mandal.

Police said a total of 61 people, including 50 tourists and 11 boat staff, on the boat.

Some 40 people are still missing. Rescue teams have been mobilized, police said.

According to the police, all the people in the boat had access to life jackets. While some of them reportedly swam to the bank, some are still missing. (Agencies)
