India to have Chief of Defense Staff: Modi

NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India will have a post of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) that integrates operations of three forces — the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force, Indian media reports have said.

PM Modi announced this in his Independence Day speech on Thursday. He added that there has been a need for the forces to sharpen coordination.

Saying that the security forces are India’s pride, he said the announcement will make the forces even more effective. (Agencies)
