‘INGOs spent Rs 25 bln on disaster management in 5 yrs’

KATHMANDU: International non-governmental organizations (INGOs) have spent over Rs 25 billion in the name of disaster management in the last five years, but the risk of disasters has gone unabated.

The investment of INGOs has gone down the drain as its achievement has been insignificant due to the lack of proper monitoring on the part of the government.

According to the records maintained by the National Emergency Operation Center at the Home Ministry, a total of 143 INGOs are currently running projects across the country.

However, their work has been limited to paper only rather than in the fields. According to Home Ministry, as many as 1,611 people died due to natural disasters in the last five years.
