British Gurkha soldiers’ demand remains unresolved



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP  Sharma Oli is on an official visit to Europe. He visited Britain on Tuesday.  His British counterpart Theresa May welcomed Oli at 10 Downing Street.  There was a

discrimination between British soldiers and Gorkha soldiers in terms of pension and salary especially those who retired before 1997.

The Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen’s Organization (GAESO) has been demanding equal and pay and pension since long. Supreme Court of the United Kingdom has already issued an order to treat the British Gurkha soldiers on par the native soldiers but the the government has not implemented it yet.

Even though talks were held on the issue of long overdue British Gurkha pension during Oli’s Britain visit, it did not yield any concrete decision, a report in Naya Patrika said.
