Ethiopian experts study about Nepal’s renewable energy policies



KATHMANDU: A high-level delegation from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has conducted a comprehensive study of the policies and regulations implemented for the development and expansion of renewable energy technology in Nepal.

The Ethiopian team also studied about the public and private sector participation in the sector.

The delegation which has come on a weeklong study tour to Nepal also observed the projects and the renewable energy testing laboratory operated by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre as well as studied the renewable energy fund operation and the rural technology center.

It likewise studied the works carried out in the renewable energy sector by the various non-governmental organizations and the private sector.

President of Renewable Energy Confederation Nepal, Guna Raj Dhakal said this visit by the Ethiopian team will help to explore the avenues for investment and knowledge sharing as Ethiopia has succeeded in making good progress in the renewable energy sector by building large hydroelectricity projects.

Team leader Tesafaya Elamayehu from the Ministry of Water Resources, Irrigation and Energy of Ethiopia spoke highly of Nepal’s progress in the renewable energy sector in short time, appreciating the related policies as well as the participation of the government, the non-governmental and private sector for the promotion of renewable energy in Nepal.

The study team comprised of 15 individuals including three from the United National Development Program and 12 from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water Resources, Irrigation and Energy. The visit is organized by the United Nations Capital Development Fund Ethiopia. The high-level delegation returned home today.
