Shrestha elected Nepal Olympic Committee President



KATHMANDU: Jeevan Ram Shrestha has been elected to the post of President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) for a second four-year term. He secured 17 votes to edge his nearest competitor Umesh Lal Shrestha, who got 10 votes.

The election to 19 various posts of NOC officials including the president was held at the NOC office premises at Satdobato in Lalitpur this morning in the witness of representatives of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.

Counting of votes is in progress regarding the other posts.

Talking to RSS after his election to the post, newly-elected NOC president Shrestha expressed his commitment to take forward the NOC’s autonomy in an effective manner and to play a role in making the upcoming South Asian Games taking place in Nepal successful.

Shrestha is also a parliamentarian. He was elected to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, from Kathmandu constituency no. 8.
