CHITWAN: Banana farming and its sales have given employment to as many as 60,000 people in Nepal.
According to Tek Bahadur Singh, a banana expert of HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, Nepal, banana farming is being done in the area of 22,000 hectors of land spreading from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the far west.
According to him, a total of 36, 600 people are involved in the banana farming. They have given employment to additional 15,000 people.
