KATHMANDU: An earthquake with preliminary 7.5-magnitude struck the island of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea, the US Geological Survey stated.

The epicenter of the quake was 3 km off the eastern coast of Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.

Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami alert for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
