Newborn declared dead by hospital starts moving

NEPALGUNJ: Kamala Adhikari of Jajarkot was admitted to the Bheri Hospital Nepalgunj after she complained of labor pain.

She gave birth to a girl child at 5 am on Friday. Her husband Milan Adhikari was at the hospital. They were happy about the childbirth in a normal condition.

However, their happiness did not last long as the hospital said that their baby had died sometime after its birth.

The hospital then handed the baby’s ‘body’ wrapped in a cloth and put inside a polythene bag for burial.

A troubled Milan then started preparing for the child’s last rites. But as he was heading towards the burial site at Bulbuliya of Nepalgunj, with the baby, the baby, which was declared dead by the hospital started to move.

He then brought the child back to the hospital. The child is currently kept in ICU care at the hospital.

Milan was infuriated with the hospital alleging the doctors of sheer negligence.

He said that the hospital staff handed over the body saying that it had died. “Isn’t this a height of negligence?” he queried.

He sought strict action to the authorities concerned for the negligence.

Milan said the hospital employees had even asked for Rs 2,000 from him as burial fee saying that they would bury the baby.

He, however, had insisted that he would bury the baby himself.

The baby was born in 23 weeks of conception and weighs 600 grams.
