Mechi Highway opens to one-way traffic



HILIHANG: The Ranke-Phidim road section under the Mechi Highway has reopened for traffic. It had remained obstructed following a landslide since 8:00 on Saturday morning.

The section, however, has opened only one-way. Security persons and locals worked together to clear the debris and open the road section for traffic at 3:00 pm, according to Chief of District Traffic Police, Paanchthar Janak Timsena. Still, more work needs to be done to open the road for two-way traffic.

A large number of travelers from the hilly districts of Paanchthar, Taplejung, Terhathum heading towards the Tarai and from Tarai toward those districts had been stranded following the landslide.
