Nepal defeats host Malaysia by 7 wickets



KATHMANDU: Nepal has defeated Malaysia by seven wickets at the first T20 International Cricket tournament held at Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Chasing the 129-run target set by Malaysia, Nepal reached the target in 18.3 overs by losing only 3 wickets.

Skipper Paras Khadka made highest 86 runs and remained unbeaten to secure win for Nepal. Khadka smashed eight fours and five sixes off 50 balls. Similarly, Sharad Vesawkar contributed 16 runs while the other batsmen could not make double-digit runs. Malaysian batsman Anwar Rahman grabbed two wickets of Nepal while Fitri Sham took one wicket of Nepal.

Earlier, electing to bat first after wining toss, Malaysia notched up 128 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs. Vireandeep Singh scored 57 runs, Ahmed Faiz made 45 runs while Fitri Sham contributed 12 runs. The other Malaysian batsmen could not reach double digit runs.

Karan KC took highest three wickets of Malaysia for Nepal. Similarly, Basant Regmi and Sandeep Lamichhane grabbed two wickets each while Sompal Kami claimed one wicket for Nepal.

Nepal will play second T-20 series with Malaysia on Sunday.
