Public transport fare hiked by 12 percent

KATHMANDU: The government has hiked the fare of public vehicles by 12 percent.

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) took the decision on Thursday following a discussion with transport entrepreneurs, consumer rights activists and chiefs of security agencies, according to DoTM Spokesperson Tirtharaj Khanal.

The department said that new fare was fixed by taking the price of spare parts, cost of vehicles, labor cost and petroleum price into account.

The new rate will be implemented from June 16.
