Sri Lanka blocks social media after fresh riot

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has blocked some social media networks and messaging apps after attacks on mosques and businesses owned by Muslim.

The ban was announced on Monday after the attacks that are considered worst after the Easter Sunday bombings.

The government has blocked popular social media network Facebook and messaging app WhatsApp owned by the social media giant.

Several dozen people threw stones at mosques and Muslim-owned stores and a man was beaten in the Christian-majority town of Chilaw on Sunday.
