Guru Nanak Jayanti observed

KATHMANDU: The 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is being observed today by organizing several programs.

Guru Nanak was born in Panjab of Pakistan on the day of Kartik Shukla Purnima (the full moon day during the Nepali month of Kartik) on 15 April 1469 AD.

He wrote ‘Guru Granth Sahib’, the religious text of Sikhism.

He was the person who advocated for humanity going beyond the interests of a specific community or caste.

According to Swami Gokulananda, the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’ was recited and saints and hermits were offered food at Pashupati on the occasion of the Nanak Jayanti today.

Likewise, programs were held at Guru Nanak’s shrines at Bhashmeshwor of Pashupati, in Gyaneshwor and Thapathali to pay homage to the founder of Sikhism.
