Xi’s visit would be ‘historic’

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the two-day state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping would be a historic one as it would be productive to materialize Nepal’s campaign of Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali.

He stated that Nepal has made all preparations to welcome President Xi.

President Xi is arriving in Kathmandu this afternoon for a two-day state visit to Nepal.

He is the first from a Chinese head-of-state since Jiang Zemin in 1996 to visit Nepal.

Likewise, former Nepal Communist Party leader and Finance Minister Surendra Pandey said that Xi’s visit would be significant to forge an agreement in a bid to enhance the national economy.

Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Ram Krishna Subedi, has said that security has been tightened in Kathmandu in view of President Xi’s visit.

Likewise, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), President Xi will meet with President Bidya Devi Bhandari who will also host a banquet in honor of her Chinese counterpart and the visiting dignitary.

Chinese President Xi is also scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Oli.

MoFA said different agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed after the talks.

Xi’s visit is considered to be significant and historic to further harmonize relations between the two countries.

President Xi is visiting Nepal on the heels of his unofficial summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and Friday.
