Incessant rain leaves settlements in Biratnagar waterlogged

BIRATNAGAR: Incessant rain for the past three days has left settlements at some wards in Biratnagar sub metropolis under water.

The three days of continuous rain caused a flood in the local Singiya River. More, the lack of appropriate drainage system has made the situation worse.

According to the District Police Office, Morang, wards numbers 1, 2 and 8 in the sub metropolis have been significantly hit by the rainwater.

Over 50 people residing near the Paropakar Ghat at Biratnagar-1 have been shifted to safety.  Some areas in Biratnagar-12 have also been inundated and the people here have been evacuated.  However, so far no human casualty has been reported. Over 50 houses at Jhajhaura and Bakkhu along the Katahari rural municipality-1 have been submerged. .

Under this situation, people are finding it hard for movement as the roads in the town are under-construction and the sewage system is being restored which have fueled the situation, increasing the risk of road accidents.

The supply of green vegetables to the market has sharply fallen due to rain and it has led to the price rise of vegetables.

Private school vehicles are facing difficulty to pick and drop students and community school students are facing inconvenience on adverse road conditions.

The risk of flood has been predicted at the district-based Bakraha, Kesaliya and Singiya  rivers if the rain  goes more and the administration has directed the Armed Police Force and Civil Police to remain alert towards such possibility.  The local government has mobilised  a team  for the prompt response to any untoward incident.  A motor system has been used to remove water from premises of the Koshi State Hospital, it is said.
