Janakpur inundated following incessant rainfall



JANAKPUR: Large parts of Janakpur sub metropolis in Dhanusha have been inundated following incessant rain since Wednesday night.

Most of the road areas, government offices and private houses sitting on relatively low lands have been left under water.

Janakpur’s historic  Barhabigha Ground, Janakppur Airport, the Office of  Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Janakpur Zonal  Hospital, District Police Office Dhanusha, District Post Office, State 2 Health Directorate, Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry office, Bhanu Chowk area, Mills Area,  an area from Murali Chowk to Bishwakarma Chowk and Kadam Chowk  are submerged by the rain waters.

However, no untoward incident has been reported so far from the heavy rain, and works to collect loss details are underway, Dhanusa Deputy Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Karki said.

Poor management of drainage built during the implementation of the road upgrading project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s Integrated Urban Development Project is blamed for the inundation.

Updating on the situation of flooding risk in the district, Chief District Officer, Pradip Kanel, the water level in the Kamala River at the border of Dhanusha and Siraha districts is on the rise, and people residing in the nearby settlements have been warned about the possibility of negative consequence from the river rising waters and urged to stay alert.

So far the situation has not turned to worse. Efforts are underway to minimize the situation, he said.
