KATHMANDU: At a time when the community schools are launching door-to-door campaigns seeking students, a teacher of a community school is forced to switch off his mobile phone to avoid the pressure from parents seeking admission for their kids.

Pokhariya Higher Secondary in Biratnagar School has received five times more applications than the quotas, prompting teachers to switch off their mobile phone before entrance examination.

“We are compelled to switch off our mobile phone to avoid the pressure from the high level officials and politicians for admission,” said Khem Bhattarai, principal of the school.

As many as 2,077 candidates had filed an application for 403 quotas at the school.
