It is early to int’lize border encroachment issue at once: Dahal

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has suggested that it would be unwise to immediately internationalize the border encroachment issue surrounding Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura.

Speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs Committee of the Federal Parliament on Monday, Dahal said, “It is too early to internationalize the border encroachment issue surrounding Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura immediately.  Let’s try to resolve this issue through a diplomatic channel, first.”

Dahal, at the meeting, stated that the Nepal government should clearly raise this issue with India in accordance with the historical facts and evidence.

“The source of the Mahakali River is Limiyadhura which is clearly shown in the historical document. Hence, the land lying to the east of Limpiyadhura belongs to Nepal while that of the west to India. it is crystal clear,” stated Dahal.

Dahal stressed the need to seriously hold talks on this issue and resolve it through a diplomatic channel. The border issue remained unresolved in the past on account of unstable government. “We will not leave even an inch of Nepal’s territory nor will enroach that of others.”

This is not a big issue but it lingered on as we could not hold talks seriously in the past.

NCP lawmaker Pampha Bhusal and Samajbadi Party lawmaker Rajendra Shrestha among others advised the government to form a mechanism comprising representatives of major political parties and border experts to sort out this issue.
