15,000 security personnel to be deployed for Xi’s state visit to Nepal

KATHMANDU: The government is deploying a total of 15 thousand security personnel from Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Intelligence Department during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal on October 12-13.

Chinese President Xi is arriving in Nepal on Saturday on a two-day state visit on the friendly invitation of Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner DIG Shailesh Thapa said all preparations have been completed under the command of the Nepal Army.

According to army source, Brigadier General Sarad Giri will lead the command of the overall security for the visit.

DIG Thapa informed that some 3,000 police have been brought from outside the Kathmandu Valley for Xi’s visit.

Meanwhile, some army officers of the People’s Liberation Army of China will be providing security to President Xi on the right side of the President.

Likewise, Nepal Army trained officers will be mobilized on the left side of the President, security sources said.

A Nepal Army helicopter will be hovering in the sky during the visit.
