State should make investments in big projects: Dr Bhattarai



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Infrastructure Conference, 2019 has begun from today in Kathmandu.

Organized with the objective of stressing on the construction of infrastructures, the conference is jointly organized by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI).

The conference is expected to explore further avenues for investment in Nepal’s infrastructure sector.

Meanwhile, addressing a session in the conference today, former Prime Minister Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai said Nepal’s private sector can invest in the energy sector in Nepal while he suggested the state to invest in major projects.

He, however, said as their investment capacity is low, it is difficult to confident of them. Dr. Bhattarai also urged the private sector to focus on the production of goods and services to maximize revenue from it.

Emphasizing the need of moving forward by taking the two neighboring countries — India and China — into confidence, Dr. Bhattarai suggested the government to move hand in hand with both neighbors.

Intimidating them is not the way out, he suggested adding that it is high time that Nepal constructed roads connecting India and China through the Karnali, Gandaki and Koshi corridors.

According to him, Nepal cannot have prosperity until Kathmandu is linked with the Tarai.
