DADELDHURA: Physical assault on doctors continues unabated in Dadeldhura district. Another incident of attack on doctors has been reported no sooner the district hospital was vandalized and on-duty doctors were manhandled after the death of a woman in delivery case.
In the previous case too, the doctors had returned to service only after a week of the incident of attack. This time the irate locals bounced on the doctors-in-service for allegedly delaying the post-mortem process.
It may be noted that the Dadeldhura Hospital was becoming the referral center for other adjoining districts of late. With this, the hospital has seen the flow of critical medical cases. A mob headed by Amargadhi municipality, ward no. 11 chair Surya Prakash Khadka on Wednesday afternoon had manhandled doctors who were performing post-mortem, informed doctors issuing a press release following the incident.
The doctors in protest have announced the shutdown of all services excluding emergency from Wednesday showing security reasons, reads the press release. “We could not come back to routine service until actions are taken against the assaulters”, the release added. Police had taken the dead body of Ramesh Khadka, a local of Amargadhi municipality-11, Sallaghari, to the hospital for post-mortem at 11.30 am on Wednesday.
The irate Khadka-led crowd had taken away the dead body while the post-mortem was not completed, the press release noted. The press release issued by Dr Jeevan Kharel, acting medical superintendant of the hospital, stated that the mob had made abusive remarks, manhandled and also pelted stones at on-duty doctors.
