When Sofiya returns home to study English …

BANDIPUR: Chelimaya Gurung of Khahare, Bandipur  Rural Municipality-6 has now returned to her own village for her daughter’s study. She is on cloud nine after he was able to save  a huge fortune.

She did not like to stay in the urban area after she found a good school in the village itself. “I did not  have to stay in the city to educate my daughter since I found a good school in my village itself,” said Chelimaya, adding, “I had to spend Rs 5,000 for rent and Rs 5,000 for other expenses. This money has been saved.”

Chelimaya’s five year-old daughter Sofiya studies in grade one in Setiganga Primary School in Tanahun district. This has been possible after a community school improved its quality education.

The school  has adopted English as a medium of teaching. “There were 11 students at the beginning and now the number has reached 68.  A total of 54 families who used to stay in the urban for their children’s study have returned to the village,” said Kulam Shrestah, the principal.
