First phase of voting ends in Indian elections



NEW DELHI: Barring a few incidents, the first phase of Lock Sabha polls in Indian ended peacefully. The first phase of the polls was held in 18 Indian states and two Union Territories on Thursday.

Simultaneously the people voted to 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly, 32-seat Sikkim Assembly, 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly and for 28 of 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.

A voter turnout of 44 percent was recorded in Andaman and Nicobar Islands till 3 p.m while it was around 70 percent in West Bengal. Maharashtra registered 46.13 percent and Andhra Pradesh 54 percent voting till the same period.

In Telangana, 60 percent electorates cast their votes till 5 PM. In Odisha, the average poll percentage was 52 till 4 pm.
