Mayor Shakya terms ‘Occupy Tundikhel Campaign’ meaningless

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Bidya Sundar Shakya has termed the ‘Occupy Tundikhel Campaign’ meaningless.

He expressed the belief that Tundikhel will regain its old form after the construction works were completed.

Mayor Shakya stated that the beauty of the open place has been reduced to some extent due to the reconstruction works of buildings around Tundikhel.

He said that Tundikhel should be open and that was his desire too. “Therefore, running the ‘Occupy Tundikhel Campaign’ is not at all necessary,” he said.

According to him, the problems would be resolved in the next three months saying that it is the responsibility of the KMC to open the Tundikhel by keeping alive the religious, cultural and historical significance.

He added that he would make all possible efforts to bring the Tundikhel to its former shape and form maintaining that the ancient heritage of Kathmandu has been a witness to every political change in the country.

“The Khula Manch (open air theatre) would be vacated once the construction materials are removed and the ongoing construction of the nearby structures are completed,” he said.
