13th SAG: Bangladeshi PM greets cricketers for clinching golds



DHAKA: Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina today called players of Bangladesh Men’s Under-23 Cricket Team and Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team and extended her heartiest congratulations to them for clinching gold medals in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) in Nepal.

“The honorable prime minister talked to the players of both the teams over the phone this afternoon and greeted them for securing the gold medals in their respective events,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said.

During the telephonic conversation, he said, the prime minister hoped that the success of Bangladesh Men’s Team and Women Cricket Team would continue in the future.

Sheikh Hasina said she will invite the players, coaches, and officials of both the teams to Ganabhaban for the success after their return from Nepal.

The premier also congratulated the players and coaches of other Bangladesh teams including archery and weightlifting for their success in the SA Games.

Besides, she talked to Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Secretary-General Syed Shahed Reza over the phone and congratulated him on the success of Bangladesh in the SA Games.

Bangladesh Men’s Under-23 Team secured the gold medal in the games crushing Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the final at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal on Sunday.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Women Cricket Team bagged gold beating Sri Lanka in an enthralling final by 2 runs at Pokhara in Nepal on Saturday.
