Three types of coins depicting image of Joshi minted



KATHMANDU: Three types of coins depicting an image of prominent literary figure and culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi have been minted.

Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada launched the coins amid an event organized on Tuesday here by the Lalitpur Metropolitan City coinciding with the birth anniversary of Joshi. The coins with the denomination of Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,000 are made completely from silver, and Rs 100 denomination coins are made from the mixture of silver and copper.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Khatiwada said it was a matter of pride to honor a literary figure like Joshi, and the coins would become a special medium to commemorate the whole Lalitpur.

Likewise, House of Representatives member Pampha Bhusal said many generations of the people could study and observe the coins.

The total 25,000 coins with the denomination of Rs 2,500 have been minted. Similarly, 25,000 coins with the denomination of Rs 1,000 and 10,000 coins with the denomination of Rs 100 have been minted, said the metropolis mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan.

The Currency Management Department, Mints Division of the Nepal Rastra Bank minted the coins. “These are the commemorative coins and the metropolis has a plan to promote the coins across the country,” he said, adding that a one-member team led by the metropolis-3 chair Srigopal Maharjan will be formed to make the coins available to the general people.
