The portal is launched with the goal of effective promotion of tourism destinations throughout the country.

Addressing the portal launching ceremony, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai expressed the conviction that the newly launched portal will provide significant support in publicizing the tourism destinations of Nepal.

He stressed on the need of attracting the domestic and foreign tourists by disseminating the maximum materials through photos of touristic places that are in shadow although having immense potential for tourism.

NTB chief executive officer Deepak Raj Joshi said a new concept has been started realizing that photo is an effective means of promoting tourism destinations. He added that the goal of launching the portal is also to provide opportunities for the maximum number of photographers. Any person can upload relevant photos on this portal. The photos will, however, be selected based on their quality and appropriateness.

The photos uploaded in the portal can also be shared in the social sites. The Board has stated that the copyright of the user has been protected.

According to the NTB, the portal is not only a forum for publicizing the contents internationally but is also a site where one can participate in the various competitive programs organized from time to time by the Board.

The daily ‘visit’ of the ‘photonepal’ site is 5,000 sight data. The daily ‘sign up’ capacity is more than 50 and the total photo upload capacity is more than 1000.
