Parliament passes condolence motion

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), the lower house of the federal Parliament, today passed a condolence proposal on the demise of Constituent Assembly former member Chhiyama Rai.

Rai was elected to the first Constituent Assembly in 2007 under the proportional representation quota from the Rastriya Janamukti Party. She died on August 27 at age 77. Rai died at Sumeru Hospital while undergoing treatment for brain stroke.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara had presented the condolence proposal in the meeting of the House of Representatives. The House has expressed sorrow over her demise and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

The House of Representatives will next meet at 1 pm on September 11.
