State Affairs Committee instructs PSC to cancel vacancy announcement

KATHMANDU: The parliamentary State Affairs Committee today directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to cancel the vacancy announced for over 9,000 staffers to fulfil the seats for the local levels.

The committee unanimously decided to instruct cancellation of the advertisement after discussing with Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit. The vacancy announcement had earlier been criticized by different sections of the society, including the ruling party lawmakers who had demanded cancellation of the vacancy announcement since it has come against the spirit of inclusion.

The parliamentary committee’s instruction has come as per Article 293 of the Constitution.

Ruling CPN lawmaker Janardan Sharma spoke in favor of defending the constitution saying that they would not be able to answer if people asked them about their role to defend the constitution and the provision of inclusion in all state organs.

Likewise, another lawmaker of the ruling party Pampha Bhushal suggested the government to be cautious about inclusion while recruiting a staff.

Meanwhile, Minister Pandit said that the government would now take care of it while defending the PSC move saying that the vacancy was announced to fulfill the immediate needs in the absence of the federal civil service act.

According to the Article 285 (#) of the Constitution, the provincial council of ministers, village council and municipal council can form and operate various government services according to law as may be required for running their administration.
