Chamber concerned over govt. decision to bar heavy trucks

KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has expressed its serious concern over the government’s decision to bar loaded trucks from entering the Kathmandu Valley during the day time. The NCC has said such a decision would have an adverse impact on the supply of daily commodities, including the factory and construction materials.

A team of NCC met with Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Raghu Bir Mahaseth and drew the latter’s attention in this regard.  During the meeting, Chairman of NCC, Rajesh Kaji Shrestha suggested the government to seek an alternative way to address the problem.

The government had earlier decided to bar the heavy trucks — other than emergency and other essential commodities — from entering the valley from 8 am to 7 pm on normal days with an aim to ease traffic congestion.
