PM Oli’s visit to Cambodia could see a ‘secret deal’ with China

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister K P Oli’s current visit to Cambodia and Vietnam has raised eyebrows.

Foreign affairs expert Arun Subedi smells rat in PM Oli’s visit to these two countries saying that the visit could see some “secret agreements” with China and India.

He argues that while Vietnam enjoys cordial relations with India and Russia, Cambodia works in confidence with China.

Therefore, PM Oli’s visit, he said, can have some ‘hidden agenda’ to deal with China in Cambodia and India in Vietnam, which could make an impact here. Subedi argues that PM Oli wants to take the Indian side into confidence since his government has some ‘misunderstandings’ with Nepal’s southern neighbor.

“I am not convinced that PM Oli visited Vietnam and Cambodia to seek their support in Nepal’s nation-building process,” he told Khabarhub adding that the visit is neither aimed at expanding Nepal’s cultural, religious or tourism market there, nor these countries are Nepal’s labor market.

Stating that Nepal’s relation with India lacks cordiality in recent times, there is a lack of confidence with both our neighbors since they are not fully assured with some constitutional provisions and the way Nepal’s current government is working.
