United States raises tariffs on $200bn of Chinese products

WASHINGTON: The United States has doubled tariffs on $200bn worth of Chinese products, media reports said on Friday.

The tariffs on affected Chinese goods have risen to 25 percent from 10 percent. Meanwhile, Beijing said it would retaliate adding that it ‘deeply regrets’ the US move, and said it would take ‘necessary counter-measures.’

The 10 percent duties on $200bn worth of Chinese good such as handbags, fish, clothing and footwear were due to rise at the start of the year. (Agencies)
