Two inmates die, two others taken ill after eating pork



PANCHTHAR: Two inmates of the District Prison Panchthar have died and two others have been taken seriously ill after consuming pork. They were taken to the District Hospital on Monday. The inmates had eaten pork on Sunday.

Panchthar Police identified the deceased as 25-year-old Buddhi Kerung of Phalelung rural municipality-8 and Jaya Prakash Jabegu of around 34 years of age of Phidim municipality-10.  Keung died while under treatment at the District Hospital while Jabegu died at 12 last night on the way to Jhapa after he could not be treated in the District Hospital.

Dinesh Khajum, 33, of Kummayak rural municipality and Sundar Rai of Sidin are ill after consuming the pork. They are said to be in serious condition and are being treated at the B&C Hospital, Virtamod in Jhapa.

It is said the inmates had slain a pig inside the prison on the occasion of Dashain festival. They were all taken to the District Hospital after they suffered from acute diarrhea after eating the pork. Police have initiated an investigation is in this connection.
