Home Minister reiterates ‘Poudel was killed in police encounter’

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has reiterated the government’s stance on the death of Kumar Poudel, Sarlahi in-charge of the outlawed Biplav-led faction.

Speaking during today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Home Minister Thapa said Poudel was killed in an encounter with the police.

Dissatisfied with Thapa’s clarification, lawmakers of the main opposition Nepali Congress and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal obstructed the parliamentary proceedings by picketing the rostrum. The lawmakers have demanded the formation of a parliamentary probe committee into the incident.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara then adjourned the session.
