CIAA begins probe on contractors bleeding state-coffer

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started investigation into contractors who are at large after taking Rs 24 billion in advance to carry out various national projects.

The anti-graft body has segregated incomplete and wretched projects among 1,848 projects. According to CIAA, the contractors had taken Rs 24 billion as mobilization cost for various projects. However, the project works have not progressed so for.

The contractors have deposited Rs 6 billion as collateral. A legal provision has it that the collateral of those contractors failing to complete the contract on time can be seized.
