132,000 convicts still out of prison

KATHMANDU: A total of 132,000 convicted criminals are still out of the jail due to the lack of sufficient space, a report in Naya Patrika said.

Currently, the prison in Nepal can accommodate 15, 466. There are already 21, 835 jailbirds.

Those convicted of various crimes include high-profile police officials to bankers. The government has yet to recover Rs 13 billion 806 million 500 thousand from them.

The current prison facilities cannot accommodate all the convicted criminals.
