SC’s order will deprive millions of citizenship: RJPN

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) has said its serious attention has been drawn toward the interim order issued by Supreme Court on citizenship.

A single bench of Justice Purusottam Bhandari on Monday had ordered the concerned not to impermanent the Home Ministry’s decision to distribute citizenship on the basis of descent for the time being.

The party in a statement on Tuesday said the decision was against the constitution and the court’s earlier order on citizenship.

The statement issued by RJP Coordinator Sarat Singh Bhandari added that the party was sad and worried over the decision ‘as the order will leave millions deprived of citizenship’.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) had last week instructed all district administrations to issue citizenship on the basis of descent at a time when the proposal to amend the Citizenship Act is still sub-judice at the Parliament.
