Gaurika makes first hat-trick in SAG winning 3 gold



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Gaurika Singh became the first player to score a hat-trick in the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG) held in Kathmandu.

On Sunday, she added a gold medal in swimming under the 400m freestyle in 4:25:28.

Earlier, Singh broke her own national record in the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter butterfly to win gold medals.

Singh took 1.09.97 in the 100-meter butterfly to improve her own previous national record of 0.08.63. Duana Lama of Army and Shreebi Maharjan of Armed Police Force clinched silver and bronze, respectively. Lama clocked 1.21.37.

In the 200-meter freestyle, Singh timed 2.09.19 seconds to win gold while Duana of Army and Tisa Shakya of APF finished second and third taking 2.18.10 and 2.26.31 seconds, respectively.

With this win, the number of gold medals reaches 45.
