13th SAG: Competitions under 15 games slated for today

KATHMANDU: Competitions are being held for different 15 games in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur on the eighth day of the South Asian Games (SAG) on Sunday.

Competitions are being held for archery, basketball, boxing, cricket, fencing, football, handball, judo, swimming, shooting, squash, tennis, beach volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.

Among the games, women’s cricket, weightlifting, beach volleyball, archery and handball will be organized in Pokhara, wrestling in Janakpur and remaining games in Kathmandu.

Football

Nepal is taking on Bangladesh in the men’s football to be held at Dashrath Stadium today. The clash will finalize the team to play for the gold medal. Bhutan has already made it to the final.

Nepal needs to at least secure a stalemate against Bangladesh to book its place for the final. Nepal is second in the points tally garnering seven points as Bangladesh has got four points.

Cricket

The final of the women’s cricket has been slated for today. Test playing nations Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be competing at the Kirtipur-based TU cricket ground for the gold medal.

On the other hand, Nepal has secured a bronze medal defeating the Maldives.
